The construction of Kazakhstan section of the road Western Europe - Western China was completed.

The Minister of Industry and Development Zhenis Kassymbek announced the completion of all construction works of the 2,700-kilometer section of the road that connects China and Russia. The Chinese side announced the implementation of the work under the project “Western Europe - Western China” in November 2017.

“We completed everything that we planned. We completed Aktobe, Zhambyl region, Shymkent, Kyzylorda earlier, and this year the trips in the direction of Almaty – Khorgos started, this year we completed the arrangement. We fully fulfilled our obligations (fulfilled - Auth.). Traffic flow increased twice during this time”, - said the Head of the Department.

According to the Ministry, the Russian section of the road is also at the final stage. Only a small gap in Orenburg region remains, which is planned to be completed in 2018.

In late November, the Chinese side reported on the completion of its section of the transport corridor Western Europe - Western China.

The Chinese mainline was named G218 and it connects the Khorgos checkpoint at the Chinese-Kazakhstan border. According to forecasts made by the Chinese, after the completion of construction, the freight turnover from China to Kazakhstan through Khorgos will increase up to 3.5 million tons per year.

Approximately at the same time, at the longest section of the international transport corridor in Kazakhstan - Kyzylorda - the large service center for drivers and tourists was opened.

“Western Europe - Western China” is a transnational infrastructure project and transport corridor, which is designed to strengthen the links between Europe and Asia. The motorway with a total length of 8,445 kilometers (2,233 on the territory of Russia, 2,787 in Kazakhstan and 3,425 in China) will start in St. Petersburg and stretch through dozens of cities in Russia, Kazakhstan and China to Lianyungang on the Yellow Sea coast.

The corridor runs along the route: Western Europe - Western China on the route St. Petersburg - Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod - Kazan - Orenburg - Aktobe - Kyzylorda - Shymkent - Taraz - Kordai - Almaty - Khorgos - Urumqi - Lanzhou - Zhengzhou - Lianyungang.
